Key findings (so far):

Italy

  • Italians are the largest consumers and exporters of olive oil, but produce less than they consume, relying on imports to make up the difference.

Spain

  • The Spanish are becoming the dominant olive oil players. In 2016 they produced 43.6% of the global supply and their exports are on track to overtake the Italians.

America

  • Americans are the worlds largest importers of olive oil, and have begun focusing on production to make up for trade deficit.

Greece

  • In the past years, Greek olive oil consumption has been at historical lows.
